MEET MATAN.

Matan A. Gendelman is an Israeli bass-baritone known for his rich vocal tone, expressive musicality, and engaging stage presence. Equally at home in both buffo and dramatic repertoire, Matan brings versatility and nuance to every performance, captivating audiences with his dynamic interpretations and strong theatrical instincts.

He is currently pursuing a Master of Music degree at the Shepherd School of Music at Rice University, where he studies under the guidance of Professor Robin Rice. Recent performances include Suleyman Pasha in The Ghosts of Versailles and Alberich in Das Rheingold during a scenes masterclass directed by internationally renowned artists Ryan and Tonya McKinny.​ Matan is a recipient of an Encouragement Award from the Metropolitan Opera Laffont Competition in the Houston District and has been recognized for his artistic excellence through scholarships from the America-Israel Cultural Foundation (2015–2022) and the Ronen Foundation (through 2023).​ He earned his Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance from the Buchmann-Mehta School of Music at Tel Aviv University, where he developed his foundational technique and began performing a wide range of operatic and concert repertoire.

 

This season, Matan looks forward to singing the title role in Verdi’s Falstaff at the Shepherd School of Music.
